Omega Phi Alpha is headed to Texas! Join your sisters in Fort Worth July 14-16 for our biennial convention, and dust off your boots for a Convention unlike any other. As always, meet new sisters, visit those you know, serve the local community and have FUN!
The theme of this year's convention is Y'All Means ALL: Everyone is Welcome in OPhiA and much of our programming and activities will be focused on living out our core value of diversity and inclusion.
In response to member feedback, we have condensed the duration of convention and this year it will kick off at 9:00 am on Thursday morning and conclude at the awards gala on Saturday evening. Our hotel room block at the Springhill Suites by Marriott Historic Stockyards starts Wednesday, so feel free to arrive early. No events will be held on Sunday. We are offering Saturday only registration for those who are local to the DFW area and want to participate just for the day.
The Omega Phi Alpha Events team is monitoring the COVID-19 situation and has put some precautions in place for all Convention attendees. The events team will put additional precautions in place for all convention events and activities based on the rate of transmission and hospitalization in Fort Worth at the time of the event.
Registration is non-refundable once registration closes on June 10, 2022. If you need to transfer your registration, please reach out to events@omegaphialpha.org prior to July 1, 2022.

What do we mean, “Values Based Organizations”? Race, class, gender, and sexuality in Fraternity and Sorority Life Fraternities and sororities have a long and storied history. Some aspects are positive and worth accolades. Others are marked by exclusion, hate, and vitriol. We can’t tell the stories of our organizations, or fully understand our groups without a full picture of the history of race, class, gender, and sexuality in fraternity and sorority life. Let’s move past the information on the website and in the new member education pamphlet. Victoria Alexander is a Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion practitioner whose passions are rooted in anti-racist pedagogy, critical consciousness building, and experiences of Black students in predominately white institutions. The aim of her work is to challenge the myths regarding the historical and present-day distributions of power, investigate the role of racism and anti-racism in social, professional, and educational spaces, and empower people to analyze their own social identities and positions within systems of power. Victoria is currently a PhD student at the University of Maryland College of Education, studying Higher Education.
The state of the sorority is a detailed review of the sorority including membership, service, expansions, communication, and engagement.
Join us for a fun wellness activity before we settle in for business for the day. This is immediately before State of the Sorority and you are expected to be in the ballroom at 2:30pm.
The budget for Fiscal Year 2022 - 2023 will be presented. All voting delegates must attend this session as they will vote to approve the budget.

t is vital to maintain open, effective communication when working as part of a team. However, it is all too easy for teams to adopt bad habits. Without realizing how badly it affects your team, you or another team member may communicate in ways that lead to misunderstandings in teamwork, cause unnecessary conflict, keep others from having their say, and prevent collaboration. In this course, you'll learn about different verbal barriers to effective team communication and strategies for overcoming those barriers. But speaking is only one part of communication; effective team leadership is about listening too. So, you will also learn about some active listening techniques that can help you be a better listener when managing teams. Everyone has different means of communicating and if we are to be truly welcoming to all, we need to learn how to communicate effectively to different types of people.
This workshop will consist of three situational leadership activities: Advice from a Role Model Hot and Cold Building a Tower Each of these activities apply to various aspects of a person's life and promotes inclusivity through the atmosphere of acceptance and cooperation. Participants will gain perspective through the situations they will be placed in and each activity will encourage participants to think about their own leadership styles.

This session would be utilizing storytelling to go over common mistakes that chapters make when engaging sisters. It will allow attendees to share what they think is wrong, what they would have done differently, and how they can make sure it doesn’t happen in their chapter. I would also be able to give suggestions!
Friendship, leadership, and service go far beyond Omega Phi Alpha. These core values apply in all areas of life. This workshop provides knowledge and tips that will assist attendees in seeing the world through a lens of diversity and inclusion instead of it being a checkmark on a list of things to do. When you can adjust your view of the world to truly consider others and their experiences, you are able to cultivate a safe space for all people. This workshop reviews realistic strategies and key points to remember while promoting inclusivity and diversity. Attendees will be encouraged to make OPhiA a safe environment for all people as they foster friendships, lead others, and serve the community.
In this workshop, you will learn tips to save money and stretch food dollars so that you can put more healthy foods on the table. After this workshop, you will understand effective meal planning, budgeting for meals, and how to effectively grocery shop. Each attendee will receive sample meal plans.

The Stockyards Championship Rodeo maintains a strong commitment to visitors looking for an authentic Western Cowboy Experience. The show features bull riding, tie down roping, team roping, barrel racing, bronc riding and break away roping. Plus calf and mutton scrambles for the kids!

This workshop will introduce how microaggressions negatively impact members. Attendees will learn about the concept of intersectionality and how our members have different aspects of their lives that influence identity. The workshop will end with an exploration on how members can keep themselves accountable for any negative actions. Journaling type questions will be presented throughout the session so attendees can begin to explore the facets of their own identities, reflect on their own actions, and create a personal plan of action to be the positive change necessary in Omega Phi Alpha.
This workshop will teach collegiate chapters to recruit potential new members on Instagram by capturing PNM information, optimizing their Instagram bio, and most importantly following and interacting with students from their school who are passionate about community service. Chapters will rethink their social media strategy and implement strategies that will be outlined during the workshop.
Everybody has a personal brand. Yours is what people say about you after you leave the room, but it doesn’t have to be that. You can create, control, and defend your brand. Take charge of others' perception and make the most of your superpowers. This will be interactive, and you will have a start on your brand statement by the end of the session.
